Russian Tourist Visa from Belgium

Tourist visa to Russia is the easiest to obtain for a Belgian national. This type of invitation to visit Russia for Belgians can be made within 1 working day. In order to have the invitation letter issued, citizens of Belgium should contact a local travel agency that is registered with the Russian immigration authorities and assigned with an individual reference number.

This kind of invitation usually comprises a tourist voucher and a confirmation of acceptance of a foreign citizen. The letter may have any desired format as this paper should printed on the travel company’s official letterhead. When issuing an invitation letter, the company’s official name and reference number must be indicated as well as the traveller’s passport information, his/her route description, duration of the trip and number of entries the foreign citizen intends to request when filing his/her visa application.

Availability of invitation letter for tourist visa does not automatically ensure issuance of visa. The Embassy officials will perform a check to see if the applicant has been abiding laws of the Russian Federation during his/her prior visits. If it is revealed that he/she has been deported from Russia in the past, his/her visa application will be refused.

Upon the positive decision, made after the documents have been reviewed at the Consular office, a tourist visa valid for up to 30 days will be issued. It may allow a single or double entry.

If a Belgian citizen intends to enter Russia to visit his/her relatives or friends, he/she is required to have a private visa available. Letter of invitation is among the documents necessary for obtaining that type of visa. The letter must be prepared and sent over mail by the person (or legal entity) residing in Russia.

The party who offers invitation must contact a local office of the FMS at the place of his/her residence (or registration) to file an application with a copy of the Belgian citizen’s passport attached to it. The application will be considered within 12 days (if the applicant intends to enter once) or 17 days (for a double-entry visa) and returned with either a letter of invitation or rejection note stating the reason why the foreign citizen’s application has not been approved. The applicant may face refusal if he/she has been deported from the country earlier, convicted in the court of law on his last visit or is still liable to penalties or fines imposed by Russian laws. I n case the letter of invitation has been successfully issue , it should be sent via priority mail service to Belgium.

Russian Business Visa from Belgium

If a Belgian citizen intends to visit Russia for business-related or commercial purposes such as engage in negotiations or participate in auctions, he/she should have a business visa prepared in advance.

The business visa invitation letter can be obtained by either of these ways:

An organization, offering invitation to a Belgian resident to come to Russia, may write a letter requesting that the Consulate of the Russian Federation grant a visa to the particular individual (not just any company is eligible to make that request).

Our company recommends the citizens of the EU, the United States, Japan and China to choose the invitation letter issued by an organization, because:

  1. Issuing an invitation letter is cheaper than arranging an invitation by Telex or at the FMS.
  2. It can be issued online in 5 minutes and will be sent to you by email immediately after payment.
  3. Also, it is not required to submit the original invitation to the Consulate, which saves you the money you will otherwise have to spend on postal services for sending the original invitation.
  4. A 3-year visa invitation and visa can be obtained with this type of invitation if the applicant has previously held two or more Russian business visas.

Consider taking these three simple steps:

  • Step 1:Fill out the form
  • Step 2: Pay €49 by credit card or via PayPal
  • Step 3:Receive your invitation on your email instantly after payment

Invitation letter for business visa can be issued on a special form (upon request from the inviting party and only after the Belgian citizen has been examined to determine if he/she has been involved in offences on the territory of the Russian Federation in the past. Telex invitation is a directive sent from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MID) of Russia by means of a special channel of communication (essentially, it is an instruction to grant a visa to the particular person).

Invitations in form of a paper letter will can be issued within 1 day. The process of obtaining a ‘business’ letter prepared on the official form requires from 12 to 17 working days. A Telex invitation can take several days.

Invitation in form of a Telex letter is the most convenient way to apply for visa as it does not require sending the original document via mail. Following the procedure, the applicant will receive a specific number which he/she must indicate at the Embassy or Consulate.

Business visas can be valid for a period of up to 5 years. They may allow a single, dual or multiple entry.

Within the period of three months, he/she should move to Russia. First thing that needs to be done is notify Russian immigration authorities. Next, the foreign employee must extend his/her visa for the period until his/her work permit expiry date. After that, he/she should undergo the migration registration procedure and obtain a permit to stay in Russia until the end of his/her visa validity period.

The employer is obliged to to take care of the worker’s legal status on the territory of Russia and make sure he/she follows all regulations. Work visa can be extended as many times as needed for the period of one year every year.

Tourist visa to Russia for Belgian citizens

Tourist visa is for those Belgians who want to visit Russia to sightseeing for a period which is not exceed 30 days. In order to issue such a visa you need a special tourist invitation, which can be obtained in every tourist agency registered in the Unified Federal register of tour operators of the Russian Federation.

Advantage of the tourist invitation is that it can be issued in 5 minutes online. Therefore, such invitation consist of two parts:

  1. Tourist voucher indicating that you have bought a tourist ticket to Russia.
  2. Confirmation of tourist admission — the Consulate is requested to issue a visa to a foreign citizen.

Reference number, travel agency’s name, tourist’s passport data, cities which are planned to visit, hotels, where tourist is going to stay, planned travel dates and visa multiplicity, dates of arrival and departure are indicated in a voucher. In a confirmation all the information is duplicated.

Tourist visa to Russia for a citizen of Belgium can be issued for up to 30 days. It can be single or double-entry.

For citizens from Belgium is possible to get tourist visa to Russia for 6 months!

Business visa to Russia for Belgian citizens

Business visa is for those citizens of Belgium, who want to visit Russia to take a part in an auction, hold a meeting with business partners, expand business ties or sign a contract. In order to obtain a business visa, you need a business invitation, which must be issued by an inviting party.

Besides business trips, such a visa is great for a longer period (up to 90 days) of continuous stay in Russia. Business visa has no disadvantages of private visas and also you can continuously stay under such a visa 3 times longer than by a tourist visa.

In order to obtain a business visa, you need a business invitation to Russia. There are several types of business invitations for the Belgians , all of them have its advantages and disadvantages:

A letter from a Russian organization

Invitation letter from an organization is an application to the Consulate of Russian Federation in Belgium for a business visa to a certain citizen of Belgium. Only organizations which are accredited at the Ministry of internal affairs have a right to issue such invitations.

I recommend to issue business invitations to the citizens of Belgium in a form of letter from an organization because it is much cheaper than Telex or the MIA letterhead and you will receive it to your e-mail right after a payment. Besides, in a presence of at least 2 business visas to Russia, Belgian citizen can obtain a multiple-entry visa for 5 years using such a letter (there is simplified visa regime between the EU and Russia).

In order to issue a business invitation in a form of invitation letter, you need to complete an application form and make a payment by credit card or via PayPal. Invitation will be delivered to your e-mail in 5 minutes.

The form of Ministry of Internal Affairs

Invitation on the letterhead of the MIA is issued as follows: representative of an inviting organization submits an application with a pack of necessary documents to the MIA office. After that, MIA employees check if you are banned to visit Russia. If there are no reasons to refuse, inviting party gets an invitation on the state letterhead and forward it to an invited foreigner. Issuance takes from 7 to 21 business days.

Electronic invitation from Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Telex)

Electronic invitation from the Ministry of foreign affairs is very convenient type of invitation because you don’t have to send any paper or electronic documents, just Telex number. Issuance takes from 7 to 21 workdays. Advantage of such invitations is that they are not required to be sent via post.

Private visa to Russia for Belgian citizens

In order to apply for a guest visa to Russia, Belgian citizen needs to preliminary obtain a guest invitation. Your friend or relative living in Russia should apply for this document for you. In order to do so, a person interested in your visit should contact territorial office of the Ministry of internal affairs of Russia and submit a pack of documents and an application requesting to issue a private invitation.

After that you need to wait until you’ll be checked for the absence of unpaid fines earned in previous visits to Russia and whether he had previously been deported from the country. If there’s no such violations, then your invitation will be given to the inviting party on the appointed day. In order to apply for a visa this invitation should be sent to Belgium via international post. If you are banned to visit Russia, issuance of the invitation will be refused.

Citizen of Belgium can obtain a guest visa for up to 90 days. Guest visas to Russia can be single or double-entry.

Work visa to Russia for Belgian citizens

If Belgian citizen found an employer in Russia who is ready to issue a work permit for him and work invitation, he can get a work visa to Russia. If there is no such employer, you need to visit Russia under a tourist visa to find a company, which is in need of highly qualified employee, who is moreover a citizen of another country.

Russian company, which agrees to hire a foreigner must not only issue all the necessary documents but hereinafter monitor that a foreign employee doesn’t violate visa regime. Advantage of the work visa is that it is issued for 90 days at first and then prolonged for the whole period of work permit validity. You can stay without a break in Russia under the work visa during the whole validity period (1 or 3 years). Herewith it can be prolonged without leaving country.

E-visa to Russia for Belgian citizens

Belgians wanting to stay in Russia for a short period of time can apply for the electronic visa. It is visa type which allows Belgian citizens to visit Russia for a period from 1 to 8 days.

This visa type is experimental. In order to obtain it, Belgian citizens don’t need an invitation, just digital photo and completed on the MFA website application. Under the electronic visa you can visit only Kaliningrad oblast (St. Petersburg will be added on this list from 1 October 2019).

Russian visa policy in 2020 or how to visit Russia without a visa?

Planning to visit Russia and not sure where to start? Read this post about the Russian visa policy in 2019 and how to visit Russia without a visa.

This post was originally written in 2016, but I updated it very recently according to the new information and new Russian visa updates in 2019. All the information is correct on the moment of the update, however, as everything is changing rapidly nowadays, it always makes sense to check and verify the information with the visa centre/embassy.

If you’re new to this blog, hi, I’m Liza. I was born and raised in beautiful St. Petersburg, Russia and in the last 4 years of blogging, I created over 40 articles about travel to Russia, from the transport guides to the safety tips! Click here to access all the Russia posts >>>

Is it hard to get the Russian visa in 2020?

Russia is a very beautiful and interesting country with a rich culture and history. However, after 1918 it got kind of closed to the world and only reopened in 1991 after the USSR collapsed. Even though there’s no cold war anymore, it’s still not that easy to get a visa to Russia in 2019, however, more and more countries don’t need a visa to visit Russia anymore.

If you’re from the EU, USA, Canada, Australia etc, you probably need a visa to Russia. Most of Asia and South America can visit Russia visa free for almost 3 months.

However, there’s actually a way to visit Russia without a visa in 2019 and it applies to holders of any passports. Stay tuned, I will tell you about this just a bit later.

So is it actually hard to get a visa to Russia in 2019? Not really – all you need to do is to go to the Russian visa centre after filling out a visa form, get a special voucher (aka invitation – you just pay for it extra), pay the visa fee, let them take your fingerprints scans (only applies to certain countries) and wait for your visa.

If you’re applying from the UK, your Russian visa centre is this one.

Russian visa policy – getting Russian visa in 2020

Whether you need a visa to visit Russia in 2020 or not, depends on your nationality. If you hold a passport of the following countries, you’re lucky and you don’t need a visa for Russia:

Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bolivia, Brazil, Brunei, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Dominica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Fiji, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Hong Kong, Israel, Jamaica, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Macao, Mauritius, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Nicaragua, Nauru, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Samoa, Serbia, Seychelles, South Korea, St. Kitts and Nevis, South Africa, Suriname, Thailand, Tajikistan, UAE, Ukraine, Uruguay, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, Venezuela.

In all other cases, you do need to apply for the Russian visa beforehand.

If you don’t want to deal with a visa centre, you can apply through an agency. If you pay extra, you don’t even need to fill your papers – the agency will do that for you. The agency will issue you a travel voucher which allows you to visit Russia. So you wait for a week or two and here you are – your visa is ready to collect.

However, if you want to apply yourself, you need to do the following:

1 – Find the closest visa centre to your place of residence
2 – Buy a travel voucher (can also be obtained from the hotel you booked – just drop them a line asking for the voucher, and they gonna send it to you).
3 – Buy good travel insurance for Russia – it’s one of the visa requirements

4 – Get a passport size photograph
5 – Bank statements for proof of residence in the country, where you are currently residing
6 – Fill online application form https://visa.kdmid.ru/PetitionChoice.aspx (some of the previous docs are needed to fill the application)
7 – Bring all the documents to the visa application centre, go through finger scanning procedure & photo taking
8 – wait 1-3 weeks

In case, you have some friends who could invite you officially, you can save a bit of money, but keep in mind that it’s a lot of paperwork for your friends. In this case, you don’t need a voucher from an agency or a hotel reservation. And you also have a chance to get a visa for 3 months instead of just one month.

None of my friends or people I know were refused Russian visa, so don’t worry about that and good luck! However, if you’re going to Helsinki or Tallinn anytime soon, don’t forget about the amazing opportunity of visiting Russia without needing to obtain a visa to Russia!

eVisa to Russia in 2020?

There’s a lot of talk going on regarding the possibility of obtaining an eVisa to Russia. Recently, a new pilot version of the eVisa to Vladivostok, Kaliningrad and St. Petersburg was introduced for the citizens of certain countries. This visa is free and it takes up to 4 days to get it (online).

However, if you’re from one of these countries listed below, you can now visit Vladivostok with an eVisa:

Algeria, Bahrain, Mexico, Brunei, India, Iran, Qatar, China, North Korea, Kuwait, Morocco, UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Tunisia, Turkey and Japan.

In the case of St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad, it’s these countries plus the entire EU (excluding the UK).

How to visit Russia without a visa?

Did you know that you can visit Russia without visa for 72 hours no matter which passport do you hold?

This rule applies to the entries by ferry from Helsinki or Tallinn to Saint Petersburg only. Or to transit entries to Kaliningrad. There are also other ports like Anadyr, Kaliningrad, Novorossiysk, Sevastopol, Sochi and Vladivostok, but I guess, St. Petersburg is the easiest option!

In other words, you have to go to Finland or Estonia, buy a ferry ticket to Saint Petersburg with the cruise company called St. Peter Line and decide what you are going to do there within these 72 hours! Not bad, huh?

Below, I will tell you what can you do during 72 hours in Russia without a visa!

72 hours in Russia without a visa

As I already mentioned before, you can spend 72 hours in Russia without having to obtain a visa. Most probably, you will only be able to visit St. Petersburg, however, it is technically possible to visit Moscow too. Just buy a speed train ticket, so the journey to Moscow takes only 4 hours or a flight (which is around 1-hour long).

Attention: you also need to hold a hotel reservation, when you enter Russia and that’s quite a strict rule.

Personally, I would recommend you to stay in St. Petersburg only and see the city properly (anyways, you won’t be able to see everything since the city is huge and beautiful; moreover, it has many suburbs with fabulous palaces).

I hope you enjoyed this post about the visa to Russia in 2019. In case you’re interested, I do have a lot of other posts about Russia >>>

Business visa to Russia for EU citizens

A business visa to Russia can be useful for citizens of the European Union who have interests related to their business in Russia. This type of visa allows EU citizens to cross the borders of the Russian Federation when they need to negotiate, sign contracts, participate in auctions and other similar events.

A letter from a Russian organization

The invitation to Russia by the form of a letter from a Russian organization doesn’t have an official form. However, it must contain information about the inviting party (company name, invoice details, contact details), information about foreign citizen invited to Russia and visa data (type of visa, purpose of travel, validity of visa, multiplicity). The letter should include information about the Consulate of Russia to which it is sent, the name of the head of the organization, his signature and seal of the organization, the justification for the purpose of the foreigner’s trip to Russia.

Invitation to Russia by the letter has a lot of advantages to the other types of invitations and it will take about 5 minutes to complete it online. When you submitting a package of documents for visa to Russia, many consulates do not even require the original invitation: enough to have an e-mail copy from the inviting party.

If an EU citizen has two previously issued visas to Russia without violations of the visa regime during his previous visits, then Russian Consulate can issue a business visa for up to 5 years on the basis of such a letter. This type of invitation is not suitable for citizens of Great Britain and Ireland, because these two countries didn’t support the agreement on visa facilitation, signed between the Russian Federation and the EU countries in 2006.

The form of Ministry of Internal Affairs

Invitation to Russia on the form of the MINISTRY of internal Affairs is issued on the basis of documents submitted by the representative of the inviting foreign organization. For this purpose, the inviting party must submit information about the foreigner to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and wait the time designated by the law (from 7 to 21 working days), while the evaluation of the foreigner will be conducted on the existence of facts of administrative penalties or expulsions from the country in the past his visits to the Russian Federation. If such facts are not found, the invitation for the foreigner will be issued on a protected from counterfeiting form, which the inviting organization will send to the EU citizen.

Electronic invitation from Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Telex)

Telex is an invitation that is sent via internal communication channel from the Russian Foreign Ministry to the Russian Embassy abroad. The convenience of this kind of invitation is that invited person enough to tell only the number of the invitation and the data of the organization that issued it. EU citizens can obtain single, double and multiple entry visas valid from several days up to 5 years to enter Russia on the basis of business invitations. The duration of the visa is determined by what is written in the invitation issued for the foreigner by the inviting organization, located in the Russian Federation (the purpose of the visit, its justification, the date of the planned trip to Russia). It will take from 7 to 21 working days for registration. The benefit of this invitations is that you do not need to send an original by mail.

Private visa to Russia for EU citizens

If EU citizens want to visit their relatives or friends in Russia, they can apply for private visa. Citizen, permanently residing in Russia, who wants to invite a foreigner, must apply to the Territorial head of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and submit the application for the issuance of a private invitation. In addition to this request he must present an identity document and a copy of the invited person identity document. Also, a person who invites an EU citizen, must provide a letter of guarantee for the commitment of material, housing and medical support of the invited foreigner, as well as information about their income. And he must pay the state fee for issuing the invitation.

After submitting such an application with package of documents, the applicant will have to wait for 20 working days. A private invitation on a protected from forgery form will be issued to the applicant after checking previous visits of this foreigner to Russia for violations of visa regime or deportation.

After receiving this invitation, the inviting party sends it to the invited person. On the basis of such an invitation, a private visa to Russia, issued by the Consulate, may be valid up to 90 days and be single or double-entry.

Work visa to Russia for EU citizens

Working visa to Russia can be valid for 1 year or 3 years, depending on the qualification of the specialist. You can stay with this kind of visa in the territory of the Russian Federation for the entire period of validity without leaving, or enter and leave any required number of times.

For receiving work visa at the Russian Consulate, you will need the help of an employer. And you have to find him in advance, before the start of processing of work visa. A company that wants to hire an EU citizen must have a permit for recruiting foreign labor. Also, company has to issue a work permit and invitation for a single work visa for a foreign specialist.

This set of documents is sent to an EU citizen who has to get a 90-day work visa first. He will enter Russia on the basis of this visa, after the employer must register him in migration office and take care of the extension of the visa for a period of 1 or 3 years. The employer must to ensure that the employee renews his visa in time, otherwise employer will get a large fine and the foreigner will be deported outside the country.

E-visa to Russia for EU citizens

Europeans who want to stay in Russia for a short period of time can do it with an electronic visa. With this type of visa document EU citizens can go to Russia and stay from 1 to 8 days.

This visa format was introduced as an experimental, but it continues up to now. To get an e-Visa, EU citizens don’t need an invitation, they need to have only a digital photo and a completed questionnaire on the website of Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
